In Uganda, over 8.4 million people lack access to safe and clean water, leaving them highly vulnerable to waterborne diseases. The impact is most severe in rural areas, where communities rely on swamps and ponds for water. These sources are often shared with animals, significantly endangering public health.
In many African communities, children bear the responsibility of fetching water for their households and schools. This task often prevents them from engaging in productive activities such as attending school on time, playing, or socializing with their peers. Additionally, fetching water from distant, unsafe sources exposes children to various risks, including physical dangers during the journey and waterborne diseases from contaminated sources.
At Twahirah Islamic Charity Organization (TICO), we recognize that access to safe and clean water is a fundamental right and a critical aspect of improving health and community well-being. We work to ensure marginalized communities have access to safe water through the construction of water wells and the distribution of water filters.
