Urban farming training
In Uganda, 33% of children under five are stunted, 50% are anemic, and undernutrition contributes to 40% of child mortality rates. Vulnerable women often carry the burden of caregiving while lacking reliable income sources.
According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS, 2024), 33.4% of households in Uganda are headed by females, while the number of single mothers has risen to 30%. These women, who shoulder the dual responsibility of caregiving and providing for families, often struggle due to poverty, unemployment, social and economic disparities.
The project equips women with climate-smart agriculture practices that optimize space and resources, enabling higher yields even under unpredictable weather conditions. Training modules include soil conservation, organic fertilizer production, water efficient irrigation, and integrated pest management. Women also receive high quality seedlings such as tomatoes, onions, eggplants, and cabbages, ensuring both dietary diversity and marketable surplus.
