A Sacrifice that Brings Joy to Needy Families: How Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation (TICO) Transformed Eid for 1,500 Ugandan Households

In the spirit of obedience, sacrifice, and community solidarity, the annual Qurban project remains a cornerstone of humanitarian relief during the season of Eid al-Adha. Rooted in the profound devotion of Prophet Ibrahim who stood ready to sacrifice his son Ismael in compliance with the command of Allah, this ultimate act of submission serves as the foundational pillar for the tradition of Dhuhia conducted by Muslims worldwide. It stands as a timeless reminder that true charity is found in giving from what we love to support those who are most vulnerable in our society.

This year 2026 between 27th and 30th May 2026, Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation (TICO) successfully translated this sacred religious obligation into a massive logistical triumph, transforming the holiday for thousands of individuals across four major districts in Uganda. Through the trust of individual donors and institutional supporters who channelled their sacrifices through the organization, TICO managed to provide fresh, high-quality meat to 1,500 needy families.

“Prophet Ibrahim’s legacy teaches us ultimate submission and sharing from what we love,” said the Executive Director, Mr Damulila Faizal. “By serving 1,500 vulnerable households this Eid, TICO acted as a bridge of hope. We didn’t just distribute food; we restored a sense of belonging and community inclusion to thousands of malnourished children, widows, and elderly individuals who are too often left behind by economic hardships.”

To ensure the highest standards of safety, hygiene, and strict adherence to Shariah guidelines, Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation centralized its entire slaughtering exercise in Kamuli District. Operating from this central point, dedicated field teams worked to package the fresh meat into family sized parcels before deploying a swift distribution network to reach deeply marginalized families in different communities.

The reach of this year’s project spanned across diverse rural and urban settlements, targeting vulnerable households with orphans, widows and other groups in Kamuli, Buyende, Kijabijjo in Wakiso, and various underserved communities within Kampala Districts. By selecting these specific areas, TICO successfully brought relief directly to the doorsteps of those who need it most.

“Our priority throughout Qurban 2026 was to honour the trust of our partners and international donors through careful execution,” said Kiyemba Nathan, Project Manager at TICO. “We managed to stretch every resource to maximize our reach, ensuring that the meat reached those experiencing scarcity. The operational frameworks we built this year have proven highly effective, and we are fully prepared to scale up operations in future phases to reach even more families who are left waiting.”

Serving 1,500 vulnerable households means that thousands of individuals including malnourished children, the elderly, widows, and child-headed families gained access to high-protein food source that is typically far beyond their financial reach. In many of these communities, poverty and other economic hardships have made meat an extreme luxury, often absent from the dinner table for months at a time.

“The demand on the ground was overwhelming, and it breaks our hearts that so many families are struggling just to afford a decent meal,” the Public Relations Officer Sheikh Kimala Akram shared. “Operating our central slaughtering point at Kamuli allowed us to maintain strict Shariah and hygiene standards before distribution beneficiaries at Buyende, Wakiso, and Kampala. We thank the public and our partners for standing with TICO to bring genuine happiness to these vulnerable families.”

Amidist the challenge of rainfall and logistical issues which caused some delays, the true impact of the project, however, was measured in the smiles and restored dignity of the beneficiaries. For these families, the timely intervention entirely transformed their Eid al-Adha experience. Instead of a day marked by quiet scarcity and worry, the arrival of the fresh meat allowed households to light their cooking fires with a sense of pride. Families were able to prepare hot meals, gather, and celebrate the festive day with the same sense of abundance, joy, and community inclusion as the rest of the world.

The success of the Qurban Project 2026 is a testament to the power of collective efforts. Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation extends its deepest appreciation to every individual who entrusted their sacrifice to our team, and to every donor who provided the financial, material, and logistical backing required to make an operation of this kind possible.

You did not just fulfill a beautiful religious obligation; you put food on tables, nourished bodies, and brought genuine happiness to families during a holy season. May Allah reward your sacrifices, accept your sincere prayers, and bless your wealth and households abundantly. Thank you for partnering with TICO to deliver measurable impact where it matters most.
