Access to Safe and Clean Water: The Transformation of Kijabijjo Village

Across Uganda today, 19% of our population, nearly nine and a half million people still rely entirely on contaminated, unsafe water sources shared directly with livestock. Until recently, this structural crisis was the crushing daily reality for the resilient community of Kijabijjo. Every single day, women and children faced the exhausting and dangerous task of traveling long distances to fetch unclean water from unprotected ponds and open wells. For the young students at Twahirah Junior School, the compounding burdens of household poverty and extreme water scarcity directly robbed them of their right to a safe childhood, causing poor health from waterborne illnesses and severe disruption to their education.

To directly solve this crisis, Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation has constructed a solar water well right at Twahirah Islamic Junior School. This vital project has been established as a blessed Sadaqah Jariyah.

The impact of this clean water system brings an immediate, life-changing transformation to the entire village. One hundred (100) needy students at Twahirah Islamic Junior School now have clean water directly on campus, maximizing their health, school punctuality, and valuable time in the classroom. Simultaneously, two hundred vulnerable (200) households in the surrounding Kijabijjo community are completely freed from the exhausting daily burden of walking miles for water, restoring their safety, health, and dignity.

To guarantee that this solar water well serves Kijabijjo for generations to come, we have built long-term sustainability directly into the project design. We have formed and fully trained a seven-member School and Community Water User Committee equipped with the technical skills and administrative protocols necessary to execute preventative maintenance, manage localised community funds, and protect the solar infrastructure independently.

On behalf of the students, the households, and the entire team, thank you to our donors for bringing life and restoring hope to Kijabijjo.
