Background

Life in a rural village as a single mother is overwhelming, with endless challenges and limited resources. After being abandoned by her husband, Madam Hadijjah was left to care for her seven children on her own. With no stable source of income, she relied entirely on farming a small piece of land to grow food for her family. Often, her children went to bed hungry, as the meager income from selling excess produce couldn’t cover the family’s basic needs, including school fees, medical care, beddings and clothing.

Intervention:

Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation (TICO) identified families like Madam Hadijjah’s and stepped in to bring hope and relief. For her family, TICO provided:

Educational Support:

Sponsorship for her son, Wamahuyu Amir, covering all his school expenses.

Essential Supplies:

Provision of food, clothing, and bedding for the entire family.

Empowerment Programs (Planned):

Urban farming training and counseling sessions to strengthen her capacity for self-reliance.

Outcome/Impact:

TICO’s intervention has transformed the lives of Madam Hadijjah and her children:

Educational Milestone:

Amir, who had dropped out of school due to financial constraints, is now enrolled in Primary Two (P.2). His academic progress and newfound social confidence have brought joy to the family.

Improved Living Conditions:

The provision of food, clothing, and bedding has alleviated some of the family’s immediate struggles.

Hope for the Future:

With Amir’s education secured, Madam Hadijjah is able to use her limited income to support her other children’s school fees, ensuring a brighter future for the entire family.
