Access to education should be a fundamental right, yet for many families in Uganda, the cost of basic school supplies is a barrier that halts a child’s progress. According to the Ministry of Education and Sports (2025), scholastic materials account for 40% to 55% of a household’s total education expenditure. In communities where families struggle to meet basic needs, parents are often forced to choose between food and the tools their children need for school. This financial strain directly impacts academic performance and is a primary driver of high school dropout rates.

Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation (TICO) addresses this gap by providing orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) with the essential tools required to learn with dignity. Our scholastic materials distribution ensures that students are equipped with exercise books, pens, pencils, rubbers and mathematical sets among others. By providing these items, we remove the “material poverty” that prevents children from participating fully in their lessons, allowing them to focus on their studies rather than their lack of resources.

The impact of this initiative is already transforming lives across various districts while maintaining consistent, year-round support for the children on our full education sponsorship program. This intervention has directly improved classroom retention and restored hope for students who were at high risk of leaving school.

Your support for this project ensures that no child’s potential is limited by their economic circumstances, fostering a generation that is fully equipped to succeed and lead.
