In Uganda, approximately 26% of the population aged 10 and above are illiterate, with rural women and girls disproportionately affected. This lack of foundational education, combined with systemic poverty, creates a significant barrier to economic participation, leaving millions of youths without employable skills or the capital to start businesses. Consequently, many enter adulthood trapped in a cycle of dependency and economic frustration, often exacerbated by cultural norms and a lack of mentorship.
Twahirah Islamic Charity Organisation (TICO) addresses these challenges through targeted capacity-building programs designed to transition marginalized individuals from vulnerability to self-reliance. Our focus is on equipping the most underserved groups including orphans, school dropouts, teenage mothers, and persons with disabilities with practical, market-oriented skills. By providing hands-on training in fields such as Fashion and Design, ICT, Cookery and bakery, plumbing and Urban Farming among others, we help individuals unlock their potential and secure a sustainable future.
We invite you to partner with us in this mission to transform lives at the individual level. A contribution of 675 USD provides one person with comprehensive vocational training in a preferred course and a complete start-up kit. This ensures they have both the technical mastery and the physical tools required to launch a micro-enterprise immediately upon completion. By investing in an individual’s skills, you are providing a direct pathway to financial independence, allowing them to support their families and contribute to their communities with dignity.
